Indian nationals traveling to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) were previously able to obtain a Hong Kong visa on arrival at the border to enter the country. However, since 2016, Indian citizens have been required to complete a Hong Kong Pre Arrival Registration online before traveling to the HKSAR.
The Hong Kong PAR for Indian citizens allows the holder multiple short stays of up 14 days each, is valid for 6 months in total from the date of approval, and is available through completing a simple online application. Indian citizens traveling to Hong Kong for a familiar trip should bear in mind that it is necessary to submit a Hong Kong PAR application for each individual traveler, including for children.
How to Apply for Hong Kong PAR for Families
All travelers are required to apply for the Hong Kong PAR if they have an Indian passport valid for at least six months, and intend to visit or transit through Hong Kong for a maximum period of 14 days. This excludes cases of direct transit where the traveler does not leave the international airport.
All family members are required to apply for a PAR individually. In order to obtain Hong Kong Pre Arrival Registration approval, it is necessary to complete the simple Hong Kong PAR application online. The PAR form takes just a few minutes to fill in with personal and passport information, such as:
- Full Name
- Date and Place of Birth
- Passport Number
- Passport Issue/Expiry Date
- Mobile Telephone Number
- A current email address at which to receive updates and notifications about the status of the PAR.
It is also necessary to answer a few questions about security matters and travel plans in order to submit the application and immediately receive an approved PAR notification slip.
Once registered, Indian passport holders can also check the status of the Hong Kong online visa. In case the Hong Kong PAR is lost, applicants also have the option to reprint the registration notification slip before arrival.
Documents Required for Families to Enter Hong Kong
Upon approval of each individual PAR for a familiar trip, it is necessary to print all of the Notification Slips for Pre-arrival Registration for Indian Nationals generated by the computer system.
All of the approved Par Notification slips must be printed on an individual sheet of blank A4 white paper and signed by the registrant. Applicants 16 years or age and under must have their slip signed by a parent.
Upon arrival at the HKSAR border, it is necessary to present an Arrival/Departure Card for each family member for immigration clearance, the printed PAR notification slips, and the valid Indian passports for each traveler in order to gain entry to Hong Kong.
It is essential for applicants to make sure that all of the details on each PAR notification slip matches each family member’s individual Indian passport before signing the slip. Family members with dual nationality should travel with the Indian same passport used to complete the PAR application, as each notification slip must be used in conjunction with the specific Indian passport that is linked to the pre-arrival registration.
The PAR for a Familiar Trip to Hong Kong from India can be used to gain access to the country at any point of entry in the HKSAR.
